Church and faith groups are invited to apply for Feast of Fun summer grants to help tackle school holiday hunger, by running community food activities for children and families during the summer holidays.
Together Liverpool is offering grants of £50 to £500 per applicant, made possible through our partnership with Meals & More.
The grant programme is open to church and faith groups who are Network of Kindness members, delivering activities within the Diocese of Liverpool area (covering Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens, Halton, Warrington, Wigan, and West Lancashire).
Activities should centre around healthy food and wellbeing, and include an additional fitness, creative, or educational activity, such as: crafts, sports, music and dance, games and learning activities.
Projects are expected to provide meals at approximately £1 to £1.50 per head. For example, an event serving 50 meals would typically request £50 to £75.
- The application deadline is midnight on Sunday June 12.
- Activities must take place during the school summer holidays – between July 18 and September 1.
- Grant recipients will be required to return monitoring data by September 12.
Joseph Cottrell, Social Action Development Lead Officer for Together Liverpool, said: “We are blown away every year by the range of brilliant activities across our region. We particularly welcome applications from groups in areas of higher economic deprivation. We also encourage anyone who has not applied before to consider applying. Grants are open to faith groups of any denomination.”
Previous Feast of Fun projects have helped groups strengthen relationships with local families, while providing vital support with holiday food costs.
This Easter 16 faith groups received funding to provide over 2,700 meals.
- Triple C (Liverpool) – The team provided food for the community including craft and outdoor activities for local families, in partnership with Christ Church Norris Green.
One parent said: “It has been lovely I am glad we came, loved the food and so did the kids; it’s actually been nice to have time to chat with other adults too!”
Another mum of three said: “I have been invited to go to Blackpool etc with other families, but no idea how they afford it, my money ran out in week one of the holidays. So, I am grateful to have events like this today that we can all come along to and also have food here! Thank you!”
- Central Church Warrington – Families were welcomed to an Easter ‘Crafternoon’, aimed at families of 3-11 year olds. This consisted of Easter-themed crafts and some games, finishing the event with a meal together, creating space for children to take part in activities while sharing a meal together.
Sarah, a church leader said: “Volunteers from the church enjoyed the opportunity to run the craft activities, and it was great being able to connect and reconnect with families.”
- Fazakerley Methodist Church – Volunteers supported an Easter brunch, craft and activity event, helping to create opportunities for connection and community during the holidays.
Organiser Angela said: “We were able to provide free good quality healthy food for those on limited income from the local area. Being able to advertise the free food meant we were able to build new relationships with people who would not usually come into a church.”
Thank you to all the Network of Kindness members who hosted activities, and to our funders Meals & More whose support made this possible.
