Social Action Conference: Housing, Homelessness and Land

Together Liverpool will be co-hosting the annual Social Action Conference from the Archdiocese of Liverpool on July 4th.

Join us for a day bringing together policy makers, workers and volunteers, to reflect on social action through the lens of housing, homelessness and land.

All across our network are invited to come along, at St Margaret Clitherow Centre in south Liverpool, from 9.30am – 3.30pm. Speakers will include Richard Kemp, Lord Mayor of Liverpool, who will share about his experience of how faith group engage in the civic sphere. Reserve your place here.

The event is delivered in partnership by the Archdiocese of Liverpool’s social justice team, Together Liverpool (a social justice charity of the Diocese of Liverpool), and Christian charity Housing Justice.

Sessions will focus on Homes, Housing and Land, including:

  • Beki Winter, Housing Justice: The housing crisis and role of faith communities
  • Rev’d Shannon Ledbetter, Co-Founder of Housing People Building Communities: From derelict churches to affordable housing in the Archdiocese of Liverpool
  • Kevin Hyland, Co-Founder of Santa Marta Group: How we can tackle the devastating impact of human trafficking on victims and our local communities.

Workshop themes will include:

  • Asylum and Refugees: What is the current situation – practically and politically
  • Cost of living: - how housing related to this crisis.
  • Environment: how can we reduce carbon emissions and make our places of work and worship sustainable

Together Liverpool will facilitate an afternoon session to support those developing social action in our communities.

Pablo Guidi, Catholic Social Action Coordinator for the Diocese of Liverpool, said the event will also be a chance to connect with others, explore related themes, and advocate for change.

He said: “I am very excited about this partnership between Together Liverpool, Housing Justice and the Archdiocese of Liverpool.

“The Social Action Network is a perfect opportunity for both partners to draw in people concerned with issues such as asylum, cost of living and the environment. I hope that delegates will go away better equipped to support the people we serve.”

“I am pleased that this year we will be looking at social action issues through the lens of housing – for example homelessness amongst refugees, affordable housing, and re-use of church land.”
