Let's End Poverty movement Merseyside launch - Unity Theatre

Join us to be part of launching the Let's End Poverty movement in Merseyside, on Saturday October 14th.

Together Liverpool will be facilitating at the Let's End Poverty Founding Assembly from 11am to 1pm at Liverpool's Unity Theatre.

We're joining forces with Network of Kindness members St Andrew's Community Network, and the Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT), to host the event, as simultaneous launches are held on-line and in other cities around the UK.

We know that poverty in the UK is an avoidable, solvable problem that can be fixed. That’s why we’re excited to be coming together to form this nation wide movement, to call for a future where poverty can’t keep anyone down.

Anyone interested in ending poverty in the UK is invited to come along from 11am to 1pm to learn more, and help build the movement.

This will be an opportunity to connect with others to show that taking action to end poverty matters to our communities and we want our political leaders to make it their priority too.

Let’s End Poverty Assembly gatherings across the UK will explore:

  • How we can organise and mobilise our communities to move tackling poverty higher up the political agenda.
  • How we can build community conversations that bring lived experience, expertise and practical solutions together to set the roadmap towards ending poverty in the UK.
  • How you can play your part in building momentum in your networks and community ahead of the next General Election.

Together with simultaneous events on-line and in Manchester, London, Nottingham, Cambridge, Newcastle, Leeds, Cardiff and Glasgow, we’ll hear about the energy behind the movement, and take part in planning the next steps.

The Merseyside event is hosted ahead of an afternoon and evening celebration of the work of St Andrew's Community Network from 4pm-9pm at the Unity Theatre - find out more here.

FAQs

Who is the Assembly for?

Anyone and everyone who is passionate about seeing an end to poverty in the UK. Whether your motivation to take action comes from your personal experience of poverty, volunteering to support your community or working as part of a charity committed to tackling UK poverty, we need you to be part of planning and strategizing about how we can build the movement together.

Where will the Assembly be held?

We’ll be gathering in regional hubs located in towns and cities across the UK, where together we’ll hear about the energy behind the movement, and take part in planning the next steps. Sign up for the Assembly and we’ll reveal the locations! Interested in hosting a regional hub where you are? Get in touch!

Is this another policy campaign?

There are lots of great campaigns calling for policy changes to help tackle poverty in the UK. Let’s End Poverty isn’t focused on one policy ask, but on creating more space in public and political conversation about why now is the time to tackle poverty in the UK, to convince our political leaders to make ending UK poverty one of their top priorities. Let’s End Poverty should amplify rather than overshadow the great work already taking place in communities and at a national level, and ultimately work to see these efforts come to fruition.

How is the Let’s End Poverty movement governed?

A movement is made up of it’s members, and it’s really important that everyone has the opportunity to have their voice heard. That’s why Let’s End Poverty has a governance structure that enables people from communities across the UK to lead, whilst organisations support with their time, resources and expertise. Through an Assembly, Enabling Group, Delivery Group and Working Groups, there are lots of ways individuals and organisations can be part of shaping strategy. Can I get help covering my travel costs?

If travel to your closest regional hub is a challenge, we have some bursaries available to help you get there. When you sign up, tell us that you’d be interested in hearing more about this and we’ll get in touch.
