Workshop: Understanding violence against women in the Bible

Join us for a thought-provoking conversation led by former human rights lawyer and author Claudine Roberts, as we explore the theme of violence against women in the Bible.

Claudine will introduce her new small group resource, Cover to Cover - Violence Against Women: Discovering El Roi, The God Who Sees, as an integral part of this session.

Hosted by Together Liverpool's Network of Kindness, this event will take place at the Parish of St Aidan's Anfield, 10am-midday on Wednesday, March 20th.

The session is open to anyone involved in faith or community-based social action across the Diocese of Liverpool area. It holds particular relevance for those working with survivors of gender-based violence or people with related experiences.

Like far too many women across the globe, Claudine has her own story of surviving sexual violence. This brings a powerful perspective to her preaching and advocacy within her local church.

Her passion lies in witnessing the transformation of relationships between men and women through the redemptive power of the Gospel.

From the cover notes of her book: "Gender-based violence affects countless women worldwide, and the Bible holds narratives that address this reality.

"This study confronts these accounts directly because understanding them is vital for the Church. While some interpretations have perpetuated misogynistic views, these stories reveal God's profound compassion for those who suffer."

James Green, Executive Director of Together Liverpool, emphasises the importance for Christians of interpreting scripture to inform our social justice work.

He said: “How we understand the Bible shapes our interaction with those around us and so our working for justice.

“As we seek to reconcile the brokenness of the world we see in scripture and our lived experience with the love and kindness of God we are further moved to work for justice.”

This session is offered free as part of Together Liverpool's National Lottery-funded Network of Kindness initiative. Join the Network of Kindness to connect further.

We hope you can join us for this enlightening session as we collaborate towards building a fairer, more just, and compassionate society rooted in kindness.
