“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” – Matthew 5:9

In recent weeks, protests around asylum accommodation in Merseyside have revealed the depth of tension in our communities. Many of those protesting feel unheard, abandoned, and fearful. At the same time, asylum seekers who find themselves the focus of these demonstrations are often fleeing conflict, persecution, and hardship – carrying their own stories of loss and hope.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to hold space for both: to listen with compassion, to seek understanding, and to work for a peace rooted in justice and the common good. That’s why we’re pleased to announce a new small grants scheme to help churches train as Welcome Plus churches – equipping them to offer practical support and community for people seeking asylum.

In the same way, compassion and understanding are also the heart behind our autumn series of workshops launched today. Towards the Common Good – Three Evenings with Jenny Sinclair explores what faithful presence looks like in our city today. Our four-part Rooted & Resourced series aims to equip Network of Kindness members with essential tools for social action – from listening in your community, to storytelling, measuring impact and applying for funding.

Also in this newsletter, our latest Story of Kindness video features a Place of Welcome café at Christ Church in Norris Green – a wonderful example of community, hospitality, and hope in action. Read on to find out more, and book your next event with us.
