Food Insecurity

Hunger and food insecurity is a day-to-day reality for many across the Diocese of Liverpool. But this does not have to be the case.

Together Liverpool work alongside partners across the region to both support those facing hunger and food insecurity, and transform the unjust structures within our society that contribute to the root causes of poverty.

We want to live in a society where everyone can afford healthy and nutritious food. Where food is a source of joy, not of anxiety, and where nobody goes to bed hungry.

We seek to work in partnership with ‘experts by experience’ - the organisations already doing excellent work in this area, and individuals and communities with lived experiences of hungry and food insecurity.

We focus our work around three areas:

Enabling local responses

We support churches and charities to respond to food insecurity in their local communities.

We do this through offering practical support and advice, and through small grants.

Find out how we have supported churches such as St Aidan's to develop a food pantry.

Learn about our Feast of Fun at Home grants, supporting churches to use food-based activities to tackle food insecurity and strengthen relationships within their communities.

Encouraging collaborative networks

We promote and support the work of Food Alliances across the region.

Campaigning and advocacy

We coordinate and support local and national campaigns which seek to tackle the root causes of poverty.
