“Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” – Amos 5:24
Amos is speaking prophetically about the movement of justice in our communities; an unstoppable force bringing life every where it flows. It focuses not just on belief but redeemed action that transforms communities.
As we reflect on the journey of Faith in the City – a movement born from the conviction that the Church must be present in every community, standing with and alongside those on the margins. Forty years on from the original 1985 report, Together Liverpool is proud to carry that legacy forward as an important part of our ongoing social justice mission.
In this newsletter, we celebrate some key moments from our Faith in the City at 40 project. We were honoured to gather at Liverpool Cathedral for a Founders Celebration, recognising many of the remarkable individuals whose faithful witness and tireless work for justice shaped the original report – and whose influence continues to ripple through our communities today.
We also reflect on this year’s Micah Lecture, powerfully delivered by Jenny Sinclair. Her call to move from charity to solidarity reminds us that true Christian justice demands more than compassion, and it calls us to walk alongside others in shared struggle and hope.
Looking ahead, we’re grateful for a grant from the Josephine Butler Memorial Trust to support a Faith in the City stakeholders’ celebration this November. And we’re looking forwards to the Catholic Social Action Conference in July, where our team will share more on this work, and how faith, justice and community transformation remain deeply intertwined.
Thank you for walking with us, as together we help build a kinder, more just and generous world.
Thanks, Rev James Green
